1920s Mildred Coat in Ecru

Our first foray into 1920s tailoring... Mildred is a new style lightweight coat inspired by , perfect for cooler evenings in summer or the hazy days of autumn. She is classy, understated and will make her wearer look like she's walked straight out of the 'age of chic'. 

This was something of a leap of faith. has such straight style lines, not something all of us are used to, and on researching coats and tailoring of this time it was clear that this was likely to be something very much for the '20s fans.

Or maybe not...

Because Mildred is packed with vintage details... A longer length (approx 42 inches/108cm from back neck to hem), she has a wide shaw collar that gently extends into a small wrap over at the front and fastens with one deco style button. The back of the shawl collar descends into a point and is finished with a cream tassel. There's very little waist shaping, as was usual in the 20s, so we've added a back tab at the back with a further two buttons - this creates interest and is a flattering feature.

Sleeves are long and two-piece, a more tailored, 'couture' construction where the sleeve is cut from two fabric panels rather than one, giving a subtly curved, more flattering shape than a simple straight sleeve.

Our favourite 'extra' design feature is the side vent - created with contrast mid green and trimmed with green button. Not only are these 2 vents functional, giving extra room for walking - they are reminiscent of that special something that the simple styles of the 1920s allowed. So chic!

Is the Mildred coat fitted or loose?
It's semi-fitted with a lean wrap style that skims the body, fastened with a single Art Deco-style button, there's very little waist shaping, which is typical of authentic 1920s coats.

What is a shawl collar?
A shawl collar is a rounded, unbroken collar that flows directly into the front of the coat without a notch, giving a soft, continuous line — a popular detail in 1920s outerwear.
